Reprinted from By Recommendation Only, "Born in Hungary and raised in Australia, Andrew Partos studied theatre at UC Berkeley. He went on to persue photography, first at the California College of Arts and Crafts, and later at the Rochester Institute of Technology where, besides earning a degree in photographic illustration, he was also a Life magazine photo contest winner. I saw a copy of the album from his sisters wedding, the first he ever photographed. All the love and effort put into the photography was immediately apparent in the album, which was presented as an illustrated childrens fairy tale. Even this early in his career he captured some wonderfully artistic shots. For the more than 20 years since then, he has been perfecting his style and very personal touch as a full-time photographer. Displayed in his fascinating studio are a variety of images from both Andrews professional work and personal travels. His pictures tell stories and benefit from a masterful lighting technique that gives even the artificially lit photos the quality of natural light. Beautiful portraits revealing significant relationships are much more than just a sweet smile in front of the camera. The gaze between mother and bride, or father and son clearly reflects their love. I especially loved a group shot taken at a party which showed what great fun these people were having. Thank you notes from previous clients consistently express both appreciation for Andrews dedication at their events, and delight with his results. In one, a bride was grateful for his familiarity with Jewish wedding customs and for not missing any of the significant shots. Frequent references attest to a personable man with a remarkably patient and sensitive manner, an effective yet unobtrusive style, a good eye, and a fine sense of timing." - Joanna Kaestner |
